4-Star Guard Commits to Ole Miss Basketball After Spurning USC
4-Star Guard Commits to Ole Miss Basketball After Spurning USC originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After making the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament last season, the Ole Miss men's basketball team needed to reload their roster this offseason.
The majority of the Rebels' key contributors were seniors, and a handful of promising young players hit the transfer portal as well. Fortunately, head coach Chris Beard has landed no shortage of strong players this spring and summer.
Former Kansas wing AJ Storr was the headliner from Beard's transfer portal class, but he also landed a duo of Louisville stars in Koren Johnson and James Scott. This was in addition to a pair of former SEC foes, Kentucky's Travis Perry and LSU's Corey Chest.
Beard is not done adding to the Rebels' roster for this upcoming season, however. On Wednesday, he landed a commitment from four-star transfer guard Kezza Giffa, who spent the last two seasons at High Point University in the Big South Conference.
Giffa was originally committed to Southern California earlier this month, but he decided to flip to Ole Miss after a visit earlier this week. He chose the Rebels over other schools like Florida, Memphis and Oklahoma State as well.
A native of Paris, France, Giffa started his college career at UTEP before transferring to High Point. There, he was a First-Team All-Big South honoree in two consecutive seasons. He averaged 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Panthers in his final year.
The 6-foot-2 guard will look to compete with both Perry and Johnson, as well as returner Eduardo Klafke for a starting spot in the Rebels' backcourt this season.
