When the Las Vegas Aces host the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday night, they'll once again be without their superstar forward A’ja Wilson.

Wilson has been ruled out due to concussion protocol following an injury she suffered in the third quarter of a recent home loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. This will be her second straight missed game.

She already sat out Friday’s contest, which was the second of a three-game home stretch for the Aces. Despite her absence, Las Vegas managed to pull off a win and will look to make it two in a row when they face Phoenix.

Wilson is the reigning WNBA MVP, having also won the award in 2020 and 2022. She’s been a driving force behind the Aces’ back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. Except for the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Wilson has been named a WNBA All-Star every year of her career.

In Friday’s win over Dallas, Aces guard Jackie Young rose to the occasion, putting up 28 points and grabbing five rebounds. She went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.

Jewell Loyd also stepped up, scoring 21 points in 28 minutes of action.

Heading into Sunday, the Aces hold a 5-4 record, which puts them in fourth place in the Western Conference, just a half-game behind the Seattle Storm. They’ll take on a Phoenix Mercury team that's off to a 7-4 start.

Phoenix, led by Satou Sabally has been one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league, making 9.8 per game. The Aces are just behind at 9.4 per game.
