6-foot-9 center commits to Georgia basketball

Three-star center Hakeem Weems has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs basketball program, per Rivals’ Jed May. Weems is a 6-foot-9, 170-pound big man that serves as a massive addition for the Dawgs prior to the 2026-2027 season.

Weems was a star during his time at IMG Academy, and the talented center committed to Georgia despite receiving serious interest from Cincinnati and South Florida. The highly coveted recruit will join Donovan Williams Jr. and David Ugonna Ike as the third high school prospect to commit to Georgia, and Weems and others could play a massive role this season following Somto Cyril’s departure to Miami this offseason. Weems received offers from Georgia State, Boise State, Yale and Navy in addition to Cincinnati and South Florida, but the center ultimately decided to commit to Georgia.

Weems is ranked as the No. 32 center and the No. 250 overall player from the 2026 class. He’s listed as the No. 31 overall center out of Florida, per the 247Sports Rankings. Both Weems and fellow Georgia signee David Ugonna Ike will have an opportunity to see some serious playing time throughout their first season in Athens.

Georgia has reloaded with some major talent following the departure of multiple key players from the 2025 season. The Dawgs recently signed former Ole Miss forward James Scott, while also adding St. Bonaventure big man Andrew Osasuyi.
