Auburn Men's Golf Claims Second National Championship in Three Years
Auburn University's men's golf team has triumphed in the national championship for the second time in three years, defeating UCLA in the final match play on June 3 at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. This victory marks the program's second national title, the first being secured in 2024 during the freshman year of standout player Jackson Koivun.
Now a junior, Koivun played a pivotal role in the championship match by securing a crucial point for Auburn, overcoming UCLA's Baylor Larrabee with a score of 4 and 3. Freshman Jake Albert opened the scoring for Auburn, defeating Tyler Loree 5 and 3, setting a positive tone for the team.
Ultimately, it was another freshman, Logan Reilly, who clinched the championship by besting Alex Papayoanou, delivering the decisive point that sealed Auburn's victory. This win solidifies Auburn's position as a formidable force in collegiate golf.
