Bears Running Backs Close to NFL's Top Spot, Poised for Success

The Chicago Bears' running back tandem of D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai has made a strong impression, earning the second spot in the latest NFL RB duo rankings. Despite their high placement, many feel they haven’t received the recognition they deserve.

Under the leadership of head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears boasted one of the league’s most formidable rushing offenses during the 2025-26 season. Their ground game accumulated a total of 2,456 yards, leading the NFC and marking the 10th highest total in the team’s history. Swift and Monangai were pivotal to this success, with both players surpassing 750 rushing yards—making them the only duo in the league to achieve that milestone.

In a detailed analysis by Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, Swift and Monangai ranked just behind the Los Angeles Rams’ Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. While fans may debate the ranking, the stats favor the Rams’ duo by a narrow margin. Swift and Monangai played in 33 games combined, recording 1,870 rushing yards with an average of 4.8 yards per carry, while Williams and Corum appeared in 34 games and gained 1,998 yards at 4.9 yards per carry.

Inconsistencies in game time also played a role in the rankings. Swift missed one match and was limited in several others due to a groin injury, while Monangai, as a rookie, initially struggled to adapt to the team’s complex offensive scheme. Both players share room for improvement in their pass-catching abilities, which has also been noted regarding the Rams' backs.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the outlook for Chicago’s running game remains optimistic. Swift expressed confidence in their partnership, stating, “There’s no drop-off at all. He’s able to do everything. I’m able to do everything.” The Bears are also adjusting their offensive line, which will feature two new starters this year. Coach Johnson remains unfazed, recalling that they faced a similar situation last season and emphasizing the importance of cohesion among the linemen.

With a solid foundation and experienced coaching, the Bears’ running attack is set to remain competitive, potentially allowing Swift and Monangai to vie for the top RB duo title in the coming season.
