Bivol Triumphs Over Eifert in Strong Comeback Performance
Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol showcased his prowess in the ring, returning from a 15-month hiatus to deliver an impressive performance against Michael Eifert, successfully defending his unified light-heavyweight titles in front of a home crowd. The bout, which featured both the IBF and WBA world titles at stake, concluded with all three judges scoring the match 118-107 in favor of the seasoned 35-year-old champion.
This victory marks Bivol's first since his February 2025 rematch against Artur Beterbiev, the sole fighter to have previously defeated him. Following that match, Bivol underwent back surgery, which kept him away from the ring for a significant period.
During the fight, Bivol established dominance early on, sending Eifert to the canvas with a powerful left hook in the first round. Although Eifert managed to rise and continue the fight, he struggled to make a significant impact against Bivol, who has previously secured victories over prominent fighters like Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez.
With one win apiece against each other, a potential trilogy bout with Beterbiev looms on the horizon for Bivol. Additionally, WBA (Super) and WBO cruiserweight champion David Benavidez, who recently moved up from light-heavyweight, has expressed interest in a matchup with the Russian fighter.
