Braves Make Roster Changes, Struggle in Series Finale Against Blue Jays
The Atlanta Braves made significant roster moves on Thursday morning, highlighted by the acquisition of catcher Austin Wynns from the Los Angeles Angels. Wynns has been added to the major league roster, while Chadwick Tromp has been designated for assignment. Additionally, outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. has been sent to Triple-A Gwinnett, and catcher Sean Murphy has been moved to the 60-day injured list.
This month has been eventful for Wynns, who began the 2026 season with the Oakland Athletics. After facing challenges at the plate, he was released on May 12 and subsequently signed a minor league contract with the Angels four days later. In his brief time with the Angels, he played eight games in the minors, recording a .333 batting average over 30 at-bats, while also committing two errors in five games behind the plate.
Wynns is not a major addition for the Braves, but he will help fill the void left by Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin as the team navigates their absence.
In their latest game, the Braves struggled offensively, managing only four hits in a 7-2 defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays, which prevented them from completing a three-game sweep. Mauricio Dubón spoke to reporters about seizing opportunities in high-pressure situations.
In other news, ESPN’s Jeff Passan suggested that the Braves should pursue pitcher Tarik Skubal as the trade deadline approaches. Meanwhile, Brett Sears had an impressive outing for the Columbus Clingstones, striking out eight on Wednesday.
In MLB updates, Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib and is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, leading to his placement on the 10-day injured list. The Houston Astros have also signed veteran 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. to a major league contract worth $1 million. Additionally, four Braves players have been recognized in Baseball America’s updated Top 100 Prospects list.
