After achieving a three-game sweep in Colorado, the Milwaukee Brewers are wrapping up their western road trip with a series against the Oakland Athletics in Las Vegas. This matchup also serves as a glimpse into the Athletics' future as they prepare for their new home in Sin City.
Kyle Harrison is set to take the mound for the Brewers. Having enjoyed a strong season, he has still found himself overshadowed by teammate Jacob Misiorowski. In his last outing against the Giants, Harrison pitched 5 2/3 innings, yielding just one run and striking out 12 batters, with the sole run coming from a solo homer. This will be Harrison's second meeting with the Athletics; his first appearance against them occurred during his debut with the Red Sox, where he delivered three scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing only a hit by pitch.
The Athletics will counter with Jeffrey Springs, who is in his ninth MLB season and second with Oakland. Springs is having a decent year with a 4.37 ERA and a FIP of 4.98 over 13 starts, averaging 7.7 strikeouts and 2.7 walks per nine innings. However, he has struggled recently, allowing four or more runs in six starts this season, including four of his last five appearances. In his previous outing, he gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Cubs, although the Athletics won that game in extra innings. Springs has faced the Brewers twice before, with a challenging outing last year where he was hit hard for six runs in just 2 1/3 innings.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Brewers made a couple of roster adjustments. Joel Kuhnel has joined the active roster after being acquired from the Athletics, while Craig Yoho has been optioned back to Triple-A Nashville. Yoho performed well in his short stint, but will await another opportunity. Additionally, Jake Woodford cleared waivers and chose to become a free agent rather than accept an assignment to Nashville.
With most regulars returning to the lineup, the Brewers are expected to feature their standard top five: Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, and Jake Bauers. Manager Pat Murphy has utilized this lineup combination for ten of the last thirteen games. Andrew Vaughn will start at first base against the left-handed pitcher, while Garrett Mitchell, who has favorable stats against lefties, will also be in the lineup, along with Luis Rengifo and Joey Ortiz.
The game is set to begin at 9:05 p.m., with temperatures expected to reach 96 degrees at first pitch. Fans can catch the action on Brewers.TV and the Brewers Radio Network.
