Cassey Ver Hey Takes the Helm as Cheer and Dance Coach at Dakota Wesleyan University

MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University has announced the appointment of Cassey Ver Hey as the new head coach of its cheer and dance team, a decision made public by DWU athletics on Monday. Ver Hey will officially start her role in time for the 2026-27 academic year.

With over ten years of coaching under her belt, Ver Hey has an impressive track record, having directed the competitive dance and sideline cheer programs at Mitchell High School since 2013. During her time there, she not only prepared her athletes for regional competitions but also played a crucial role in enhancing the game day atmosphere and community involvement for the Kernels.

Prior to her tenure at Mitchell High School, Ver Hey was an assistant coach for competitive dance at Sioux Falls Washington High School. Her coaching journey began in Guymon, Oklahoma, where she spent a decade teaching dance from 1996 to 2006.

DWU Athletic Director Ross Cimpl expressed enthusiasm about Ver Hey joining the team, highlighting her deep local connections and impressive coaching history. "We are very fortunate to be able to add Cassey to our Athletic Department, given her local ties and extensive standout background in cheer and dance," he stated. "Her incredibly successful career is a testament to her abilities, and we are extremely fortunate to be a part of her professional journey in her new role with the Tigers."

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Ver Hey has been a dedicated educator in the Mitchell School District since 2013. After spending five years at L.B. Williams Elementary, she now teaches seventh-grade math at Mitchell Middle School, a position she will maintain alongside her new coaching role.
