If the Celtics are looking to acquire Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, they will face significant competition from other teams. Currently, Boston doesn't even have one of the top three odds to land him for next season.
On Monday, CBS Sports published an article by Chinmay Vaidya detailing the odds on where Antetokounmpo will play in the 2026-27 season, as provided by DraftKings. The Celtics were listed at +750, ranking fourth behind the Miami Heat at +240, the Bucks at +360 and the Brooklyn Nets at +600.
"Boston has routinely been prepared to take big swings over the last three seasons, but any deal for Antetokounmpo would likely involve Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum," Vaidya wrote. "It's hard to see the Celtics parting ways with either player, even after a first-round exit despite holding a 3-1 lead."
The Celtics would be an excellent fit for Antetokounmpo, as they are one of the top teams in the NBA and could create a formidable duo with him and Jayson Tatum. However, the Heat might offer the best trade package, featuring a mix of young players and draft picks that Boston doesn't have.
If the Celtics can't land Antetokounmpo, their best option might be for him to return to the Bucks for another season. Milwaukee doesn’t have the pieces to compete in the East, and if he were to end up in Miami, the Heat could become the team to beat in the conference.
