Clemson receives crystal ball for best offensive lineman in Virginia

Clemson fans during the 2027 recruitment cycle have seen commit after commit on the front five fall to outside competition, notably Elijah Hutcheson, Payton Miller, and many others.

This is why Clemson football being a frontrunner for the best lineman in Virginia is huge. The four-star interior offensive lineman out of Poquoson, Virginia, is set to announce his decision on Memorial Day at 5 p.m., with Clemson, Penn State, Tennessee, and Georgia making up his final four. For a Clemson staff that has taken some frustrating losses along the offensive front, this is the kind of recruitment that feels bigger than just one player.

Jones is not a five-star on the major recruiting services, despite some media wording confusion. He is still a legitimate Power Four offensive line target nonetheless. 247Sports lists him as a four-star prospect with a 90 rating, while the 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 414 overall player, No. 22 interior offensive lineman, and No. 11 player in Virginia. At 6-foot-5 and around 291 pounds, he has the frame Clemson can work with, especially for a player projected inside.

The Tigers also appear to be in a very good position. Jones has multiple Clemson predictions, including a 247Sports Crystal Ball from Kolby Crawford, and Clemson is listed as the warmer school on his 247Sports profile.

Jones is a big-bodied drive blocker who plays in a run-heavy offense and has experience at tackle but projects inside as a tone-setting guard.

The only thing keeping this from feeling like a layup is the final group of colleges involved. Georgia and Kirby Smart have lost most of their targets so far, so they will be pushing hard for a win. Penn State has been involved are known to have great recruitment cycles, and the Vols are a team that has shocked during recruitment periods as well. But based on the current buzz around the player, Clemson looks like the team with the best shot heading into the announcement.

Memorial Day at 5 p.m. is not an announcement you want to miss because this could be the next best thing for Clemson and this offensive line. After missing out on more than half a dozen offensive linemen in the 2027 class so far, Clemson needs some life on the front five, and blue-chip lineman Carter Jones could provide just that for Matt Luke.
