Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are set to begin the 2026 season against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. This will be a highly-intense game, as one of the most-watched regular season NFL games ever came between the two teams in 2022, when the Cowboys earned a 28-20 win.

The NFC East rivalry is already generating buzz, especially with players adding extra tension through their comments ahead of the game. Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux added even more intensity while discussing the Week 1 showdown.

“I hate them,” Thibodeaux said. “I think it’s the right place at the right time with the right people, with the right coaches, with the right fans. This is the perfect year for a miracle story.”

The 2026 season will also introduce a new era in the rivalry, with John Harbaugh stepping in as the Giants’ head coach after spending nearly two decades elsewhere. As for Thibodeaux, he has never been one to mince words when it comes to the Cowboys and so kicking off the 2026 season schedule against them is exactly the kind of fuel he thrives on.

Thibodeaux also had a lingering offseason social media beef with former Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant last year. However, he later made it clear that it was strictly about the jersey and the history, rather than a genuine hatred of Bryant himself.

The upcoming game will mark the 13th season opener between the Cowboys and Giants, and their first opening-week meeting since 2023. The Cowboys have dominated the all-time series in season openers, winning 11 of the previous 12 matchups and edged the Giants in an overtime battle during Week 2 in 2025. However, the Giants responded later in the year with a win in the regular-season finale.
