Dan Rapaport has suggested how likely he thinks Jordan Spieth is to win the PGA Championship this week, with the American once again looking to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Spieth has been a PGA Championship victory away from joining one of the game’s most exclusive clubs for the best part of the decade now.

He has not actually finished inside the top 10 at the event since 2019. Spieth ended up missing the cut at Quail Hollow 12 months ago.

The positive news is that the Texan is in reasonable form heading into the second major of this season. His previous injury problems look to be well and truly behind him.

Spieth has registered five top 20 finishes on the PGA Tour this year. The only problem is that he is still awaiting his first top 10, having finished 11th on two occasions.

With the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young playing so well right now, and Rory McIlroy likely to be a threat at every major he plays, it is probably no surprise that Dan Rapaport wrote off Spieth’s chances of a fourth major win this week.

“I said yesterday that I feel personally affronted by his form. It’s not fair, he doesn’t owe me anything personally. But also, let’s go. Let’s do something. He has been chasing the Career Slam for eight years now and nobody says anything,” he said on Dan on Golf.

“With Rory because he played so well everyone was talking about it every time he got to Augusta National. You don’t hear it all from Jordan Spieth.

“There is a chance he shoots 68 on Thursday, definitely. But I don’t think there is any chance he wins the golf tournament. Alex Fitzpatrick has three top 10s on the PGA Tour this year, Jordan Spieth has zero.”

Spieth’s PGA Tour statistics suggest that Aronimink will not play to his strengths

What has been strange this year is just how unspectacular Spieth’s performances have been. He previously guaranteed entertainment whether he was about to contend or be one of the first to finish on Sunday.

Spieth actually sits between 70th and 90th on the PGA Tour this season for strokes gained off the tee, approach, and around the green.

Meanwhile, he is 34th on tour for putting. So it is probably fair to say that there is not one strength that particularly stands out heading into Aronimink.

That may be more useful at a US Open where all aspects of a player’s game are put under the microscope. Spieth’s fans will hope that he is putting the foundations in place to really kick on in the coming years.

But ahead of a PGA Championship where the scoring looks set to be extremely low, it is hard to see how Spieth will be able to keep up.
