Dana White Defends UFC Freedom 250 Against Joe Rogan's 'Gimmick' Remark

Dana White has largely brushed off Joe Rogan's criticism regarding UFC Freedom 250, but he took issue with the term "gimmick" used by the commentator. The outdoor event is set to take place on June 14 at the White House in Washington, D.C., featuring a seven-fight card highlighted by two title bouts: Alex Pereira facing Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship and Ilia Topuria squaring off against Justin Gaethje to unify the lightweight titles.

Rogan, who will provide commentary for the occasion, has voiced concerns about the challenges of hosting high-stakes fights outdoors, including potential weather impacts, insects, and temperature fluctuations. White acknowledged Rogan's worries but emphasized their friendship, stating, “Joe Rogan is a grown ass man who has his own opinions on different things – and yes, we are really good friends.” He added, “These are all real things that come into play that night of the fight, and you're gonna have different people that work for me... but we're gonna do it.”

Despite the valid points raised, White was particularly irked by Rogan's description of the event as a "gimmick," especially considering the historical context. White argued, “Whatever Joe Rogan's opinions are... I mean, what does a gimmick mean? It's a real fight, with real stakes.” He emphasized the significance of the matches, particularly for Pereira, who could potentially win a third world title that night, positioning him as one of the sport's all-time greats.

The UFC Freedom 250 event is not only a celebration of 250 years of America but also a unique showcase that involves military representatives. White firmly stated, “There’s absolutely nothing gimmicky about this event,” as he defended the importance of each fight on the card.
