Dansville Softball Falls Short in Regional Championship

DANSVILLE — This spring, the Dansville softball team has consistently relied on its strong pitching, particularly from the talented junior duo of Ryker Graf and Laci Neal. Their exceptional performances on the mound have kept the Aggies competitive throughout the season. However, in the Division 4 regional final held on Saturday, June 6, the team faced a tough challenge against Summerfield, ultimately losing 3-1 on their home turf.

Graf showcased her skills during the championship match, racking up 13 strikeouts. Despite her efforts, the Aggies struggled to find their rhythm offensively, leading to the end of their remarkable season. The defeat marked Dansville's first loss since late April, leaving coach Bill Sherwood proud of his team’s achievements this spring. "This team is tight, and they have a good time together," Sherwood remarked. "They just jelled. We had a little rough start and then they went on a big winning streak and kept winning and playing well and having fun. I just told them to keep having fun."

Saturday's game concluded a 24-game winning streak for the Aggies. Their offense was limited to a solo home run by Neal and a single from Katie Hamel in the first inning, with no additional hits following that. "We just ran into a little bit of a buzz saw today," Sherwood said. "We couldn't really score. We got one in the bottom of the first and then I thought maybe we would go on a roll. She was just a little bit different, a lefty, and maybe threw a little bit of junk. We just couldn't adjust and came up a little short."
