deGrom Shines as Rangers Edge Cardinals 2-1
On June 1, 2026, the Texas Rangers secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, showcasing the impressive pitching of Jacob deGrom. The two-time Cy Young Award winner delivered a stellar performance, dominating on the mound for five innings and allowing just four hits while striking out eight batters.
Although the Cardinals' Michael McGreevy also put forth a solid effort, he ultimately couldn’t match deGrom’s effectiveness. McGreevy pitched six innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs, along with one strikeout and two walks.
The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, when Brandon Nimmo hit a one-out single, followed by Ezequiel Duran's double that brought Nimmo home. They extended their lead in the fifth inning after McGreevy walked Jansen, who later stole second and advanced to third on a single by Lopez. Joc Pederson’s single then scored Jansen, pushing the score to 2-0.
St. Louis finally made some noise in the bottom of the sixth when Masyn Winn hit a home run, reducing the Rangers' lead to 2-1. The Cardinals' relief pitcher, Justin Bruihl, held the Rangers scoreless for over an inning, but the Texas offense remained a threat.
In the ninth, the Rangers turned to Jacob Latz to close out the game. The Cardinals had a chance to rally but ultimately fell short as Nolan Gorman struck out with two outs, sealing the Rangers' win. The two teams will face off again on Tuesday night, with Dustin May starting for St. Louis and Nathan Eovaldi taking the mound for Texas. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:45 PM Central Time and will be broadcast on Cardinals.tv.
