Diamondbacks Adjust Roster Ahead of Matchup with Nationals
The Arizona Diamondbacks are making key changes to their roster as they prepare to face the Washington Nationals. The team has officially selected infielder LuJames Groover from Triple-A Reno, bringing him up to fill a spot at first base. This decision comes as part of a series of roster moves aimed at enhancing the team's performance.
In tonight's lineup, Groover, who was drafted in the second round (#48 overall) in 2023 from North Carolina State University, will be making his debut. He has shown promising potential, boasting an impressive .322 batting average and an .893 OPS in 56 games with the Reno Aces this season. Interestingly, Groover shares a birthday with fellow Diamondback Nolan Arenado, both born on April 16.
To accommodate Groover's promotion, the Diamondbacks optioned infielder Jose Fernandez back to Triple-A. Fernandez had a sensational debut earlier this season, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs against Detroit, but his performance has declined since then. Over 54 games, he has only managed a .242 average and a .582 OPS.
Additionally, the team designated right-handed pitcher Taylor Rashi for assignment to make room for Groover on the 40-man roster. Despite a strong showing in the minors with a 1.03 ERA across 26.1 innings, Rashi’s time in the majors was short-lived, marked by a rough outing against the Orioles. The Diamondbacks hope he can clear waivers and remain within the organization.
As the Diamondbacks navigate these changes, they aim to bolster their lineup and build on their successes this season.
