Dodgers Dominate Angels with Nine Runs in Opening Frame Following Myles Garrett's First Pitch
The Los Angeles Dodgers launched a commanding offensive display against their rivals, the Los Angeles Angels, during a game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, June 6. The excitement kicked off with Shohei Ohtani, who scored the initial run of the matchup after Andy Pages delivered a powerful two-run home run that traveled 394 feet to left field.
This was just the start for Ohtani, a former Angel who made a significant impact in the first inning. He later crushed another two-run homer, sending the ball 406 feet to center field, with Alex Freeland crossing home plate on the play. By the end of the first inning, the Dodgers had established a staggering 9-1 lead.
Ryan Ward contributed to the early onslaught with a double that allowed Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts to score, while Max Muncy advanced to third base. Muncy didn’t remain on third for long, as he scored following Freeland's fielder's choice that forced a play at shortstop Zach Neto. An error allowed Ward to score, and Dalton Rushing also crossed the plate due to a throwing miscue from Neto.
The Angels had initially taken a 1-0 lead thanks to Oswald Peraza's impressive triple, which brought Wade Meckler home. However, the Dodgers quickly turned the tide.
In a special moment before the game, NFL star Myles Garrett, who was recently traded to the Los Angeles Rams after nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns, threw the ceremonial first pitch. Garrett, who was honored as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in the previous season after setting a record with 23 sacks, received a warm welcome from the Dodgers.
Additionally, Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen provided a memorable moment in the bullpen by catching Pages' home run, which sent his teammates into a frenzy.
