Fall Creek Baseball Secures First Regional Title in Over a Decade with Victory Against Durand-Arkansaw
FALL CREEK — Freshman Heath Rosemeyer made a significant impact in his inaugural playoff appearance, leading Fall Creek High School to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Durand-Arkansaw in the Division 3 regional final on Wednesday. Coach Matt Prissel placed his faith in Rosemeyer, who pitched the entire game for the Crickets, marking their first regional championship since 2012.
"He's been in big moments this season," Prissel remarked. "He’s a big-time player. Big-time players make big-time plays, and he did that time and time again today." Rosemeyer showcased his talent by striking out three batters and restricting the Panthers to only two hits throughout the game.
Despite feeling the pressure, Rosemeyer credited his teammates for their support. "It was a little scary out there, especially at the end it got quite shaky," he admitted. "But we pulled through. It was a great game. My defense, they were amazing." With this win, the Crickets achieved their 11th regional title and improved their season record to 23-3-1.
The lone run of the game came in the first inning when Ethan Westrate hit a grounder that led to an error by Durand's third baseman, Jacob Poeschel, allowing Finley Wright to score. Prissel acknowledged the challenge posed by Durand-Arkansaw's pitcher, Dylan Berger, who held the Crickets to just one run over six innings while striking out five batters.
Fall Creek now prepares to face Elk Mound in the sectional semifinals next Tuesday, with both teams having shared the Western Cloverbelt title during the regular season. "Elk Mound is a really good program," Prissel acknowledged. "We know we're going to have our work cut out for us, but we're just thrilled to have the opportunity to compete." The Crickets stand just two victories away from their first state tournament appearance since 1998.
