Franklin boys soccer hires Kyle Roelke as coach, replacing Mike Burgoyne

Franklin will again have one coach overseeing both of its TSSAA soccer programs.

Kyle Roelke was named the new Franklin boys soccer coach on May 26, the school announced, filling the void after longtime coach Michael Burgoyne stepped down at the conclusion of the 2026 TSSAA boy soccer state tournament in Murfreesboro.

Roelke, a former Vanderbilt women's assistant who also has coached in the Nashville SC Academy, completed his first season with the girls team this past fall, also succeeding Burgoyne in that role.

Franklin’s boys program went 16-2-2 this past spring, losing to Bearden 4-2 in the Class AAA state semifinals. The Admirals own two state titles (2013, 2014) and were runners-up in 1987.

Franklin's girls program has won 11 state titles, most recently in 2011. The Admirals were state runner-up seven times, including 2016 and 2020 under Burgoyne, who spent 14 years at Franklin.

Burgoyne informed Franklin before the season of his intention to step down. The Admirals were annual contenders under Burgoyne, with 12 total TSSAA state tournament appearances, seven with the boys and five with the girls. 

Roelke coached 10 years of Division I soccer between assistant coaching stops at Vanderbilt, Western Michigan, and Belmont. He owns some of the highest soccer certifications coaches can earn, with a UEFA A License and a USSF A License.

He coached with the Nashville SC Academy for three years, won the 2017 U18 National Championship and claimed six club state championships with Tennessee Soccer Club.
