Grand Forks Red River Athletes Earn All-State Recognition
Grand Forks — Recently, six athletes from Grand Forks Red River were honored with all-state accolades in North Dakota, highlighting the exceptional talent at the school. Among them, softball standout Jocelyn Berg received the prestigious title of Gatorade Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The all-state selections are made by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. In baseball, Alex Seaver made the all-state team after an impressive season where he recorded a .390 batting average with 28 hits, including seven extra-base hits. On the mound, the senior compiled a 6-2 record over 43.1 innings, striking out 65 batters while maintaining a 2.58 earned run average. Seaver, who plans to continue his baseball career at Iowa Central junior college, was also recognized as all-EDC and all-state in both his sophomore and junior years.
In addition to Seaver, Devils Lake's Mason Palmer also received all-state honors in baseball. The Red River girls' soccer team was well represented as sisters Taylor and Reagan Hodny, along with teammate Addi Kotrba, earned all-state recognition. Taylor closed her sophomore season with 21 goals and 12 assists, while Reagan contributed nine goals and seven assists. Senior defender Kotrba scored twice.
In softball, Berg was joined by senior Ella Speidel on the all-state roster. Berg, a junior who excels as a right-handed pitcher and first baseman, led her team with a .587 batting average, 11 doubles, and six home runs. She pitched 99.1 innings, securing a 7-2 record with 189 strikeouts and a 1.48 ERA. Speidel, who has committed to play college golf at the University of North Dakota, boasted a .500 batting average with eight doubles and two triples.
This recognition underscores the strength of Red River's athletic programs and the dedication of its student-athletes.
