The Houston Astros received troubling injury news on Wednesday.

According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, infielder Carlos Correa needs season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left ankle. His timeline for recovery is 6-8 months.

Correa reportedly suffered the injury during batting practice on Tuesday. Without question, this is brutal news for the Astros.

It also changes the dynamic of their plan for this year's trade deadline. Correa began his career with Houston as a full-time shortstop, often shifting over to third base as recently as last season.

In 2025, Correa made 23 appearances at shortstop and 14 at third. The three-time All-Star hit 279 with three homers to go with 16 RBIs and a .787 OPS in 122 at-bats.

Originally rumored to be a prime trade candidate, Isaac Paredes is likely now the full-time third baseman for the Astros. Paredes also split time with Christian Walker at first.

Without a true everyday position, Paredes has still managed to hit .261/.361/.391 and three homers with a .752 OPS.

With the way their season is progressing, Houston may sell at the deadline. For now, Paredes becomes more of a necessity to have on the roster due to Correa's season-ending injury news.
