Jennifer’s Catching Slough Classic Set for June 13
The South Coast Running Club is gearing up for its annual event, the Jennifer’s Catching Slough Classic, scheduled for Saturday, June 13. This popular race features multiple distance options, including a half marathon, as well as 5K and 10K runs, all commencing along Catching Slough Road near its junction with the Coos River Highway, just east of Coos Bay's Eastside district.
Participants in the half marathon walk will kick off the event at 7 a.m., followed by the running half marathon starting at 8 a.m. Both the 5K and 10K races are set to begin at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the race will contribute to a scholarship awarded annually by the South Coast Running Club to a deserving distance runner from a local school.
Early registration fees are $15 for club members and $25 for non-members, with a $5 increase on race day. Students can register for just $5. For additional details or to sign up for the race, as well as to join the South Coast Running Club, visit www.southcoastrunningclub.com.
Additionally, in April, a team composed of runners from Coquille Valley and North Bend emerged victorious in the annual 68-mile relay from Roseburg to Coos Bay. The group, named Start Slow and Taper: The Gang’s Back Together Edition, completed the race in 8 hours, 49 minutes, and 59 seconds. A total of 26 teams participated in this event, which serves as a fundraiser for Camp Millennium, a summer camp dedicated to children battling cancer.
The results of the relay showcased impressive performances, with the team Red Zone Rulers finishing second and Running Rejects taking third. The spirit award was awarded to Unbridled Spirit, while the Director’s Award for the closest finishing time to their prediction went to RunN4Fun, who finished just under two minutes from their anticipated time.
