Kentucky headlines the list of early transfer portal losers

It's not a secret to anyone that the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team's offseason hasn't gone according to plan. Mark Pope and his staff wanted to retain much of last year's roster, but lost nearly everyone. Kentucky dipped into the transfer portal to reload, but came away with some major whiffs that have a lot of Big Blue Nation worried about the competitiveness of the team next year.

Now it seems that fans aren't the only ones concerned with the Wildcats' direction. On Monday, USA TODAY Sports listed their biggest losers so far in the transfer portal, and Kentucky sits right at the top.

The misses of Donnie Freeman and Rob Wright were noteworthy, but the fit of the players they did land were also considered questionable:

The Wildcats landed a pair of top-ranked lead guards in Zoom Diallo from Washington and Alex Wilkins from Furman, although questions have been raised of how the backcourt will fit together. Wilkins, a true freshman last season, averaged 17.8 points with 4.7 assists per game, but also was one of the least-efficient guards nationally, averaging 3.8 turnovers per contest. The two similar players aren't the best of shooters, either.

They note that Pope can still save their offseason by landing one or two of the players who could pull out of the NBA draft. If they don't, though, it'll be hard to argue that this has been a tough offseason for Kentucky.
