Larry Fitzgerald Sr., Influential Sports Journalist and Father of NFL Star, Passes Away at 71

Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, has passed away at the age of 71, as announced by his family. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. A devoted father, husband, grandfather, and a true pioneer in the Minnesota broadcasting community, he spent his life pouring into the people and the city he loved so much,” wrote Marcus Fitzgerald, the late sports journalist's son, on social media.

Born and raised in Chicago, Fitzgerald Sr. pursued college football at Indian Hills Community College and later at Indiana State University, graduating in 1978. His career in sports media spanned nearly five decades, during which he made a significant impact as a broadcaster and sportswriter in the Minneapolis region.

In a statement following his passing, the Minnesota Vikings expressed their condolences: “The Vikings organization is saddened by the passing of Larry Fitzgerald Sr., a distinguished journalist and trusted voice in Minnesota sports for nearly 50 years.” They noted his ability to forge strong relationships within the local sports community, covering numerous Super Bowls and major sporting events.
