Mariners Smash Four Homers Again, Defeating Diamondbacks 5-1

SEATTLE (AP) — For the second consecutive game, the Seattle Mariners showcased their power at the plate, hitting four solo home runs in a decisive 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Luke Raley and Julio Rodríguez both went deep for the second straight game, contributing to a strong offensive display early in the match.

Starting pitcher Bryan Woo (5-3) was stellar on the mound, delivering seven shutout innings while striking out nine batters, matching his season high. The 26-year-old right-hander was in control, allowing only two singles in the fifth inning, and he struck out five consecutive hitters at one point. Cooper Criswell surrendered a hit in the eighth, and Alex Hoppe allowed a walk in the ninth, which led to a late run for the Diamondbacks, but the Mariners maintained their edge.

Raley launched his 13th home run of the season in the second inning, setting the stage for a two-run shot from Dominic Canzone just one out later. Rookie Colt Emerson added another homer to his tally, hitting his second of the season to open the third inning, followed by Rodríguez's 12th blast, giving Seattle a commanding 4-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Mariners extended their lead to 5-0 when Randy Arozarena scored on a sacrifice fly from Cole Young after reaching base on a throwing error. This marked the end of Ryne Nelson's (2-4) outing, as he allowed five runs—four earned—on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, marking a tough night for the right-hander who typically limits home runs.

With this victory, the Mariners (30-29) have risen above the .500 mark for the first time since early in the season. This follows a previous win where they also hit four home runs in a 7-6 contest that went into extra innings. The last time Seattle homered as frequently in the first two games of a series was back in 1999 against the Twins.

Looking ahead, the Mariners will face Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly (5-3, 5.25) on Sunday, with Seattle aiming for a series sweep against RHP Bryce Miller (1-0, 2.25).
