After a promising four-game winning streak, the New York Mets headed to the West Coast for a matchup against the Seattle Mariners, facing off against strong starting pitching. While Emerson Hancock took the mound for Seattle, the Mets opted for a dual pitching strategy, starting the game with Austin Warren and transitioning to Sean Manaea for the majority of the innings.
The early stages of the game were uneventful, with Warren pitching a scoreless first inning before hitting Randy Arozarena with a pitch, leading to his exit. Manaea entered and also held the Mariners at bay through the second inning. The first run of the game came from the Mariners when Colt Emerson hit a solo home run, putting Seattle on the scoreboard.
Hancock continued to dominate, delivering four hitless innings before the Mets finally broke through in the fifth. Jared Young led off with a solo home run, leveling the game. In the sixth, Marcus Semien followed suit with another solo shot, granting the Mets a brief 2-1 lead. Manaea completed five innings, yielding just one run while recording four strikeouts, showcasing a solid performance.
Brooks Raley took the mound in the seventh but soon surrendered a game-tying home run to Josh Naylor. After allowing a single, Raley was replaced by Luke Weaver, who managed to keep the game tied through the eighth and into extra innings after a flawless ninth inning. However, the Mets’ offense fell silent after Semien's homer, failing to capitalize on opportunities in the tenth, where A.J. Minter allowed a game-winning single, sealing a disappointing loss for New York.
With only two hits against a formidable Mariners pitching squad, the Mets will seek to bounce back in their next game against Seattle, likely giving Jonah Tong the start against Logan Gilbert.
