Military Members Face Criteria for Tickets to UFC Event at the White House

The highly anticipated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at the White House on June 14 promises to celebrate American culture through mixed martial arts, but current military personnel need to meet specific requirements to secure their attendance. This event, part of UFC's major Washington D.C. initiative, will feature a title unification match between UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje, as well as an interim heavyweight title bout with Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane.

With significant excitement surrounding the UFC's Freedom 250 event, obtaining tickets is expected to be quite challenging, even for military members who can access complimentary passes. A Pentagon memo obtained by NBC News outlines the eligibility criteria for service members wishing to attend. To qualify, military personnel "must meet current waist-height ratio and current physical fitness standard." Furthermore, travel expenses will be the responsibility of the attendees, as neither UFC nor the Defense Department will provide financial support for arrangements.

Notably, the memo emphasizes that tickets should be granted to genuine UFC enthusiasts, rather than exclusively to high-ranking officials. Troops attending the event will also be required to don their short-sleeve dress uniforms. Among the more surprising stipulations is the waist-height ratio requirement, which mandates that service members maintain a ratio of less than 0.55, in addition to fulfilling their respective physical fitness test standards.

This initiative appears to be aimed at promoting a fit appearance during the televised event, though it has raised questions about fairness. On a more positive note, the memo encourages ticket distribution to true fans of the UFC, allowing even lower-ranking members of the military a chance to attend the prestigious gathering on the White House grounds. However, determining one's status as a diehard fan may pose a unique challenge.
