Mississippi State Baseball Awaits Final Opponent in Starkville Regional

STARKVILLE — The Mississippi State baseball team has advanced to the final of the Starkville Regional in the NCAA Tournament, but the identity of their opponent remains uncertain. The Bulldogs, seeded No. 14 nationally with a record of 42-17, secured their place in the final by defeating Cincinnati 10-5 at Dudy Noble Field on May 30.

On May 31, Mississippi State will either face Cincinnati again at 7 p.m. or take on No. 3 Louisiana (40-24). The matchup between Cincinnati and Louisiana is set for earlier that day at 2 p.m., with the winner moving on to challenge the Bulldogs.

Cincinnati previously triumphed over Louisiana with a decisive 12-2 victory on May 29, while Louisiana kept their tournament hopes alive by defeating No. 4 Lipscomb 10-4 on May 30. This marks the third consecutive year that Mississippi State has reached a regional final, although they were unable to secure wins in their previous regional finals in 2024 and 2025.

In order to win the regional, the team facing Mississippi State will need to defeat them twice. If the Bulldogs lose on May 31, a decisive game will be held on June 1. The Starkville Regional is aligned with the Athens Regional, where No. 3 Georgia is currently competing in its own regional final against an opponent yet to be determined.
