Morton High School Girls Soccer Team Advances to State Finals for the First Time

The Morton High School girls soccer team celebrated a remarkable achievement on Tuesday as they secured a spot in the IHSA state finals after defeating Waterloo 5-2 in the Class 2A Chatham Glenwood supersectional. This victory marks a historic moment for the Potters, who will compete in the state semifinals for the first time ever.

With a record of 25-1-1, Morton is set to face Wheaton St. Francis (12-4) at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at North Central College in Naperville. The Potters established control early in the match, taking a 2-0 lead at halftime, thanks to goals from sophomore midfielder Madi Greiner and junior forward Claire Ceresa, the latter scoring with an impressive header following a well-placed cross.

Although Waterloo managed to level the score within the first 12 minutes of the second half, Morton quickly regained their advantage. The winning goal came from Greiner, who executed a precise left-footed shot that curved beautifully into the net off the right post with just over 26 minutes remaining in the game.

Morton continued to dominate, adding two more goals from Izzy Ripka and Ceresa in the final stages of the match, sealing their victory and confirming their spot in the finals. The Potters have been on a remarkable winning streak, with 11 consecutive victories and an impressive overall record of 22-0-1 in their last 23 matches. This season, they have outscored their opponents by a staggering 131-4.
