NBA Commissioner Discusses Progress of Independent Investigation

During a press conference at Frost Bank Center ahead of Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver provided an update on the ongoing investigation being conducted by an independent law firm. This inquiry is separate from the league's internal operations, although the NBA is covering its costs.

Silver emphasized the importance of reaching a timely conclusion, stating, "Yes, ultimately we're paying their bills, but they are doing the work independent of the league office, and my instruction to them is we can't be investigating forever." He acknowledged the need for a resolution, noting that both the teams involved and the other 29 franchises require clarity regarding the situation.

Reflecting on the progress of the investigation, Silver remarked, "I think it's clear they're far along." He highlighted that the firm is actively gathering input from various individuals, indicating that the process is well underway. "But I think we're close to the point now where I think we need to wrap this up because you also need finality," he added.
