NC State Welcomes Wright State Transfers Hunter Warren and Chet Lax

North Carolina State University has announced the addition of two transfers from Wright State for its 2027 baseball roster: Hunter Warren and Chet Lax. Both players, who were instrumental at Wright State under former Wolfpack pitcher Alex Sogard, are expected to make significant contributions to the Pack9 lineup.

Hunter Warren, a rising redshirt junior and second baseman, hails from Moline, Illinois. Over the past two seasons, he has been a consistent presence in the Raiders' lineup, starting all 116 games since redshirting in 2024. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter boasts an impressive career batting average of .344 with a .429 on-base percentage and a .465 slugging percentage. In 2026, he achieved an impressive .361 batting average, hitting 8 home runs and stealing 15 bases, while earning First Team All-Horizon League honors in consecutive years.

In the field, Warren has also proven his reliability, recording a .982 fielding percentage last season and a .980 career average. If he does not declare for the MLB Draft next month, he is poised to claim the starting second base position vacated by Luke Nixon, who has held the role for the past three years.

Joining Warren is Chet Lax, a senior left-handed pitcher from Hendersonville, Tennessee. Lax also earned First Team All-Horizon League recognition this year after a standout season where he posted a 9-1 record with a 4.23 ERA across 78.2 innings pitched. His career stats reflect a solid performance, with an 18-4 overall record and a notable improvement in key metrics, including strikeouts and groundball rates, throughout his college tenure.

Both players have previously experienced NC State’s facilities firsthand during a 2025 series, where Warren hit .400 and Lax made a notable pitching appearance. Their arrival is seen as a promising boost for the Wolfpack as they prepare to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
