In a thrilling matchup, the Knoxville Smokies triumphed over the Birmingham Barons, 8-7, after 11 innings, with catcher Owen Ayers leading the charge by driving in five runs. The game showcased a back-and-forth battle at Covenant Health Park in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Ayers, who had a standout performance, notched a three-run homer in the fifth inning, marking his eighth of the season, and finished the night with three hits in four at-bats, including a double. He also contributed with a walk and a stolen base, proving to be a significant asset for the Smokies.
Starter Dawson Netz set the tone with three solid innings, allowing just one run while striking out two. The bullpen played a crucial role as well, particularly Marino Santy, who allowed only one unearned run in 2.2 innings.
