Patrick Dorgu's Rising Star Shines Amid World Cup Absence
As the World Cup approaches, many Manchester United players are showcasing their talents on the international stage, but Denmark's Patrick Dorgu will not be among them following his team's defeat to the Czech Republic in the playoff round.
Dorgu has transformed his role at Manchester United this season, evolving into a formidable attacking presence. He made his move to the club from Lecce in January 2025, starting as a left wing-back, but his early days were a mix of ups and downs. It was during the latter part of Ruben Amorim’s tenure that the coach shifted Dorgu to a left winger position on Boxing Day against Newcastle, where he delivered a spectacular goal that clinched the match.
Building on that momentum, Dorgu added goals against rivals Manchester City and produced a remarkable strike against Arsenal at the Emirates in January. Unfortunately, an injury sustained during the Arsenal game sidelined him until late April. However, he returned to contribute significantly, netting a crucial goal against Brighton & Hove Albion on the final matchday, enabling Bruno Fernandes to set a new Premier League assist record.
Dorgu's ascent continued with an impressive goal against Ukraine, where he demonstrated his skill by cutting in from the right flank and unleashing a powerful shot that left the Ukrainian goalkeeper with no chance. The match, however, was cut short after former United player Christian Eriksen collapsed, but it has been reported that he is recovering well.
Despite the game being abandoned, Dorgu's striking performance reinforces the club's decision to develop him into a more offensive player, a choice that is clearly yielding positive results.
