Patriots Opted Against A.J. Brown Trade After Extended Negotiations
The New England Patriots had the opportunity to acquire three-time All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles but ultimately turned down multiple trade proposals, according to a recent report. Fans had expressed dissatisfaction with the decision made by Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf, who previously traded a first-round pick for Brown.
According to SI insider Albert Breer, Wolf managed to negotiate the asking price down from Eagles' general manager Howie Roseman. At one point, Wolf suggested to Roseman, "If you get a 1 and a 2, go ahead and do it," showing his willingness to engage but not commit to a high draft price. Despite this, the Patriots remained interested in Brown, with several former associates of head coach Mike Vrabel from Tennessee endorsing the wide receiver's character and competitive nature.
The discussions between the two teams began back in February during the NFL Combine, where Roseman outlined an initial asking price that included two picks in the first two rounds of the draft. However, Wolf was reluctant to part with any first-round selections until April, especially with the 2027 NFL Draft regarded as exceptionally talented.
As the draft approached, both sides appeared increasingly inclined to finalize the deal, which led to New England's decision to select a future tackle. Meanwhile, Philadelphia felt the urgency to trade up to secure a wide receiver, indicating the depth of interest in Brown.
