Quantae Anderson Resigns as Mead Girls Basketball Coach, KC Ahrens to Succeed Him
Quantae Anderson, who has been a prominent figure in Mead's girls basketball program, has announced his resignation to dedicate more time to his family. Anderson wrapped up his 18th season as a head coach, 15 of which were spent at Mead. Under his leadership, the Panthers achieved an impressive record of 18-6 last season and secured a 7-2 mark in the Greater Spokane League. They clinched a spot in the state tournament by defeating Kamiakin 62-36 in the district tournament but were eliminated by Tahoma, who was seeded 13th, with a score of 55-41 in the regional round.
Anderson leaves behind a notable legacy with a career record of 258 wins against 136 losses, including a state championship, four league titles, and four accolades as the GSL Coach of the Year. His contributions to the team will certainly be missed.
Taking over the coaching duties is KC Ahrens, who previously led the Deer Park team to a remarkable 24-4 record this past season, finishing 11-1 in league play. Ahrens has guided Deer Park to state tournaments for the past three years, with finishes of fourth in 2026 and third in 2024 in the 2A bracket. He brings a solid career record of 222-120 from his 16 years of coaching, nine of which he spent at Deer Park, and is a seven-time recipient of Coach of the Year honors.
In other basketball news, Coeur d'Alene has appointed Arnold Brown as its new boys varsity basketball coach. Brown previously served as an assistant coach for the Vikings and has a wealth of coaching experience, including leading Shadle Park's boys team from 2018-2023. His earlier achievements include winning the State 2A championship and being named Washington State 2A Coach of the Year in 2005.
Meanwhile, the Mead boys 4x800-meter relay team recently set a new school record by shaving eight seconds off the previous time at the Brooks PR Invitational, finishing with a time of 7:45.92. The team, composed of junior Anderson Williams, sophomore Drew Dinges, sophomore Stejer Franklin, and junior Aaron Pooler, secured second place in the event.
Lastly, mark your calendars for the sixth annual CdA Summer Shootout basketball tournament, taking place from June 19-21 at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake. This event will feature 70 high school teams from several states and Canada, offering a great opportunity for basketball enthusiasts. Day passes are available for $10, while a three-day pass can be purchased for $20.
