Ryan Gerard Left Exhausted After Heartbreaking Memorial Tournament Finish

Ryan Gerard faced a challenging emotional aftermath following a tough playoff loss to J.T. Poston at the 2026 Memorial Tournament, held on June 7 at Muirfield Village Golf Course. The defeat came after an intense competition, marked by a lengthy day on the course due to weather delays.

Initially suspended by storms while both players were on the sixth hole during the third round, Gerard and Poston had to battle through a total of 31 holes, culminating in a playoff after they both made crucial putts on the 18th during the fourth round. The oppressive heat and the demanding layout of the course left Gerard appearing more exhausted than one might expect after a golf tournament.

The decisive moment came when Gerard missed a crucial 5-foot, 9-inch putt for par on the second playoff hole, which ultimately allowed Poston to claim the title. “Yeah, I’m tired,” Gerard admitted. “There’s a lot of stress out on this golf course... It just kind of wears on you mentally.”

Despite the emotional toll of the loss, the runner-up prize of $2.2 million offered some consolation. However, Gerard's thoughts were centered more on the competition than the financial reward. His journey in the final holes of the fourth round had been particularly dramatic, as he birdied from 36 feet, 9 inches on the 17th hole to momentarily take the lead. The crowd’s cheers echoed as he celebrated, only for Poston to respond with his own birdie on the 18th, forcing Gerard into a playoff.

Reflecting on the day, Gerard acknowledged that while he had performed well, he recognized areas for improvement. “I know I didn't execute enough to get it done... So, we're going to go work on a couple things,” he stated, looking ahead after finishing the tournament at an impressive 12-under 276. Just a week prior, he had tied for 10th at the Charles Schwab Challenge, showcasing his potential on the PGA Tour.
