Seahawks Linebacker Derick Hall Commits to Team with New Contract, Eyes Future Championships
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Derick Hall is firmly committed to the Seattle Seahawks and not interested in exploring free agency. The promising linebacker, who played a pivotal role in the Seahawks' Super Bowl victory last season, secured a three-year contract extension worth $42 million on Wednesday, having reached an agreement the previous day. Entering the last year of his rookie deal, Hall chose to remain in Seattle, driven by his desire to compete for more championships in the years ahead.
“I know we’re going to win a lot of games and a lot of championships here,” Hall, 25, stated. “So, I’m willing to sacrifice whatever everybody else thought I’d be willing to make to be here and with this team.” As the 37th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Hall earned this lucrative deal, thanks in part to his crucial strip-sack during Seattle's 29-13 Super Bowl win over New England.
Hall's journey to the NFL is notable; born four months premature in Gulfport, Mississippi, he was declared dead at birth but was revived by medical staff. His mother, Stacy Gooden-Crandle, refused to let go of hope and traveled to Seattle to witness her son’s signing. “It’s unbelievable. It’s unimaginable,” Hall remarked, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and hope regardless of one's beginnings.
Known for his playful banter with teammates, Hall hopes to take on a greater leadership role within the squad. Over his first three seasons, he has recorded 10 sacks and 105 tackles but believes he can achieve even more. “There’s so much more for me, and I know there’s so much greater heights that I can go to in my game,” Hall expressed. “It’s just continuing to work towards that every single day.”
