Seven Arizona Women Track Athletes Earn Spots at NCAA Championships

The Arizona women's track and field team is poised to make a strong showing at the upcoming NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, following a successful final day at the NCAA West Regionals. Seven athletes from the Wildcats secured their places for the championship, including an impressive 4x100m relay squad and three high jumpers.

On Saturday, the Arizona 4x100m relay team set a new school record, clocking in at 43.28 seconds to finish third in the race. The relay team, comprising Brooke Lyons, McKenna Watson, Taylen Wise, and Hollan Powers, significantly improved their previous best time of 43.77 seconds by nearly half a second. Additionally, Taylen Wise qualified for nationals in the 100m hurdles, completing the race in 12.95 seconds to place seventh, marking her first trip to the NCAA Championships.

Hollan Powers will also compete in two events in Eugene, having previously qualified in the heptathlon. In the high jump, Arizona's Paris Mikinski, Kya Crook, and Emma Gates all advanced, with Mikinski tying for first place after achieving a personal-best jump of 1.87 meters. Crook and Gates also cleared 1.87 meters multiple times, finishing fifth and eleventh, respectively.

Arizona has a storied history in women's high jumping, with former Olympian Brigetta Barrett holding the collegiate record at 1.99 meters. In addition to the seven athletes who qualified on Saturday, Erin Tack (javelin) and Sydnie Vanek (long jump) advanced earlier in the week. Overall, the University of Arizona will send nine women and seven men to the national championships, marking one of the largest delegations for the track and field program in recent years.
