Speculation Swirls Over Kevin Durant's Potential Move to Minnesota
Rumors surrounding Kevin Durant's future have ignited conversations across the internet, particularly regarding a possible trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, it's important to clarify that there is currently no solid evidence supporting these trade scenarios.
Recently, a report from Last Word on Sports suggested a complex four-team trade that would send Durant to Minnesota. The proposed deal included Kyrie Irving moving from Dallas, while other teams like the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls were also mentioned in the mix. The article claimed that the offseason had "descended into speculation territory," yet failed to provide any credible backing for the trade.
The purported trade structure outlined that the Houston Rockets would acquire Irving and Patrick Williams, while the Timberwolves would gain Durant. Other teams involved were said to receive various players and draft picks. However, the inclusion of free agent Anfernee Simons in the deal raised significant questions, as free agents cannot officially be traded until after the signing period begins on June 30.
Despite the buzz, no reliable NBA insiders have confirmed any of these rumors. In fact, a similar wave of speculation had circulated in June 2025, only to be dismissed by ESPN's Shams Charania, who reported that Durant had no interest in joining the Timberwolves.
As it stands, while many teams are eligible to negotiate trades, including Minnesota, there is still a long way to go before any real movement happens. Durant recently signed a two-year, $90 million extension with the Houston Rockets, which also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, making his situation even more complex.
