Sunderland 2-1 Chelsea: What MacFarlane said
Chelsea interim boss Callum Mcfarlane, speaking to BBC Match Of The Day: "It's a disappointing result and performance. We didn't hit the levels this group is capable of. Sunderland deserved to win the game. I thought they started well and we didn't match their tempo and intensity. I was hoping we would get momentum after Cole Palmer's goal.
"We are gutted, disappointed and haven't performed well enough. This club needs to be in Europe and these players need to be in Europe. We'll need to review the season and reflect to give the new manager the best opportunity to attack the new season."
