Texas Longhorns Prepare to Face Oregon Ducks in Super Regional Showdown
AUSTIN, TX - The Texas Longhorns, ranked sixth nationally, are gearing up for a crucial Super Regional clash with the No. 11 Oregon Ducks. Under the guidance of head coach Jim Schlossnagle, in only his second year, Texas aims to secure its first trip to Omaha since 2022. The series kicks off on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Both teams come into this matchup riding high, having swept their respective regional competitions. This will mark the inaugural meeting between Texas and Oregon, though Oregon faced Schlossnagle's former team, Texas A&M, in the Super Regional two years ago, which resulted in a sweep for the Aggies on their way to the College World Series finals.
Texas boasts a strong offensive lineup, highlighted by transfers Aiden Robbins and Carson Tinney, who excelled in their postseason debuts. Robbins recorded a .429 batting average with three home runs and nine RBIs, while Tinney posted an impressive .636 average with a home run and four walks. Freshman Anthony Pack Jr. also made headlines, setting a school postseason record with four home runs in just two games, contributing to the team's overall dominance in the Austin Regional.
Defensively, the Longhorns have seen improvement with redshirt senior Dariyan Pendergrass stepping into the starting center field role. His presence has helped stabilize the outfield, culminating in a standout diving catch during the regional play. Texas will send sophomore left-hander Dylan Volantis to the mound, who has been exceptional, recording a 2.00 ERA during the Austin Regional.
The Oregon Ducks come to Austin with a formidable reputation, characterized by a powerful offense that led the Big Ten with 104 home runs this season. Their roster includes several heavy hitters, such as Drew Smith, Angel Laya, and Nouvilou Lauaki Jr., all of whom have surpassed the ten-home run mark this season. Oregon's pitching staff, ranked 11th nationally with a 3.98 ERA, is known for its ability to strike out batters, making them a tough opponent in this critical series.
As both teams prepare for this pivotal matchup, the winner will earn a coveted spot in the College World Series, setting the stage for a thrilling weekend of college baseball.
