There’s still a path for Detroit Red Wings defenseman Justin Faulk to lead his Team USA into the quarterfinals at the World Championships. It starts with a regulation win against Hungary today at 10:20 a.m. ET. (NHL Network).

If the Faulk-captained Americans (1-1-0-3) down Hungary in regulation, they would then show eight points entering their final game against Austria Tuesday. (10:20 a.m., ET, NHL Network). If they then down Austria Tuesday in regulation, USA would finish with 11 points.

Presuming Latvia wins its final game against Hungary, the Latvians would finish with 12 points and finish third in the Group behind Switzerland and Finland. Presuming Moritz Seider’s Germany takes care of business against Great Britain, the Germans would finish with 10 points.

The Americans could finish ahead of Germany for the fourth and final quarterfinal berth with regulation wins in their final two games.

Meanwhile, Sweden, featuring Red Wings’ Lucas Raymond and Albert Johansson, probably needs to defeat Slovakia in regulation in their final game to advance to the quarterfinals.

Faulk leads all U.S. defensemen with an average of 23:38 minutes per game playing time. He has two assists. Detroit prospect Max Plante has not registered any points for the Americans.
