Tigers End Losing Streak with Offensive Power Against Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers snapped their four-game losing streak on Monday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-9, bolstered by an impressive display of power hitting that included a season-high five home runs.

Dillon Dingler shone brightly in the contest, blasting two home runs and notching four hits, while also driving in four runs. Riley Greene had a standout performance as well, going 3 for 4 with a walk and three RBIs, falling just a triple short of the cycle. Kerry Carpenter contributed to the offensive barrage with a home run of his own, achieving three hits and two RBIs.

The Tigers made history in the third inning when Dingler, Greene, and Carpenter launched three consecutive home runs, a feat not accomplished by the team since August 8, 2020. During that game, Miguel Cabrera, C.J. Cron, and Jeimer Candelario also hit three straight homers against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hao-Yu Lee added to the Tigers’ tally with another home run, ensuring the team avoided slipping 17 games below the .500 mark.

This victory is particularly significant as historically, teams that have fallen 16 games under .500 have had a tough road to the playoffs, with the 1914 Boston Braves being the only team to come back from such a deficit successfully, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
