UFC Fight Night 278 Awards Highlight Dominant Performances in Las Vegas

The UFC awarded four bonuses following the recent Fight Night event in Las Vegas, with the night’s top favorite also receiving a substantial bonus. While the event showcased some impressive finishes, the recognition seemed to favor well-known fighters rather than the underdogs who shone in the prelims. After the event held at the Meta APEX, four athletes earned an additional $100,000 for their performances, while five others received $25,000 for their finishes.

Brendan Allen (27-7 MMA, 15-4 UFC) and Edmen Shahbazyan (16-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) were honored with the Fight of the Night award, each taking home $100,000. Allen secured a unanimous decision victory over Shahbazyan, marking his third consecutive win and showcasing a strong comeback after a two-fight losing streak.

Iwo Baraniewski (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his swift victory against Junior Tafa (7-6 MMA, 3-6 UFC). Baraniewski, who was the event's biggest betting favorite, ended the fight in just 85 seconds, demonstrating his striking prowess by knocking Tafa down multiple times.

Another $100,000 Performance of the Night was awarded to Edgar Chairez (14-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC), who executed a classic club-and-sub strategy to defeat Bruno Silva (15-9-2 MMA, 5-6 UFC) with a rear-naked choke in the first round. Chairez's effective striking laid the groundwork for his grappling success.

Several fighters also received $25,000 bonuses for their impressive finishes, including Bryce Mitchell (19-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC), who secured a last-minute submission against Santiago Luna (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC). Additionally, Alessandro Costa (16-5 MMA, 4-3 UFC), Chelsea Chandler (7-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC), Joanderson Brito (19-5-1 MMA, 7-3 UFC), and Ketlen Souza (17-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) all showcased remarkable skills in their respective bouts, earning well-deserved financial rewards for their efforts.
