Utah Talons Aim for Championship Glory Under New Leadership

The Utah Talons, the latest addition to Utah's professional sports scene, are gearing up for their inaugural season with ambitions of clinching a championship and promoting the sport of softball. The excitement was palpable at the team’s media day held at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City on June 8, 2026.

Head coach Cindy Ball-Malone expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity, which came when legendary softball figure Lisa Fernandez, general manager of the Talons, reached out to her. “I’m just beyond excited to be standing here in front of you guys,” Ball-Malone stated, reflecting on the journey that led her to this pivotal role.

Ball-Malone, who previously coached at the University of Central Florida, is set to lead the Talons in their season opener on Tuesday. She emphasized her gratitude for turning her passion for the game into a career. “When you pick up the ball and you play the game, you think you’re doing it for fun, and then all of a sudden you get to go to school for it, and then now, you get to make a career out of it,” she said. “I feel definitely blessed every day to have that opportunity.”

The media day also featured appearances from key players, including pitcher Montana Fouts and infielder Hannah Flippen, who shared their anticipation for the upcoming season. With a strong coaching staff and talented roster, the Talons are poised to make a significant impact in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League.
