Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shatters IPL Records, Bags Five Major Awards in Historic Season
In a groundbreaking turn of events during the IPL 2026 season, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in the tournament's annals as the first player to secure five prestigious individual accolades in a single year. Despite the Rajasthan Royals missing out on a spot in the finals, the 15-year-old prodigy emerged as the standout performer of the season.
Sooryavanshi's exceptional campaign culminated in an awards night where he took home the titles of Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Super Sixes of the Season, the coveted Orange Cap, and Most Valuable Player. His achievements have set a new benchmark for excellence in the league.
Leading the tournament with a staggering 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, Sooryavanshi also shattered the record for the most sixes in a single season, hitting an astounding 72 and surpassing Chris Gayle's long-standing record of 59. His influence was felt across all major batting categories, including becoming the first uncapped player in IPL history to score two centuries and significantly surpassing the previous record for runs by an uncapped player.
Among his most memorable performances was a remarkable 16-ball half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, tying the record for the fastest fifty in an IPL playoff. Earlier, he had also recorded a 36-ball century against the same team, marking it as the third-fastest in the tournament's history. Additionally, he became the youngest and fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs, achieving this milestone in just 440 balls, breaking Andre Russell's earlier record by a notable margin.
Sooryavanshi's prowess was particularly evident during the powerplay, where he amassed a staggering 521 runs in the first six overs, the highest ever recorded in that phase for a single season. His six-hitting ability outshone Gayle's iconic record; while Gayle averaged a six every 7.7 balls, Sooryavanshi hit a six every 4.5 deliveries.
Although the Royal Challengers Bengaluru triumphed over the Gujarat Titans in the final, taking home the championship trophy, the night belonged to Sooryavanshi as he showcased one of the most extraordinary batting seasons in IPL history, solidifying his status with five major awards.
