Vikings’ Christian Darrisaw Shows Encouraging Signs Ahead of New Season
The Minnesota Vikings made significant investments in their offensive line last year, aiming to bolster their blocking unit alongside a strong pair of tackles. Unfortunately, injuries plagued the group, leading to a challenging season for the Vikings' offensive line. However, as June approaches, there’s promising news regarding left tackle Christian Darrisaw, who is participating in organized team activities (OTAs) and reportedly performing well.
Darrisaw, who is considered the Vikings’ top lineman and one of their most vital players, struggled with health throughout the previous season. He missed the opening games of the 2025 season due to a knee injury that cut his 2024 campaign short. Upon his return, he played while wearing a brace on a knee that had sustained both ACL and MCL tears, ultimately landing back on Injured Reserve without a new injury reported, indicating he may have returned too soon.
The sight of Darrisaw back at OTAs without a knee brace is a promising sign, suggesting he is ahead of schedule compared to last year. There’s optimism that he will be ready for the upcoming season without any lingering issues that could affect his performance. The significance of his health cannot be overstated, as the left tackle position is crucial for protecting the quarterback's blind side. Before his injuries, Darrisaw was often mentioned among the elite in the league, alongside names like Trent Williams and Lane Johnson.
The 2025 season was a tough one for Darrisaw, with Pro Football Focus grades reflecting a drop from his previous standards. Despite achieving a pass-blocking grade of 71.3 and a run-blocking grade of 69.8, the talented tackle allowed 19 pressures, including two sacks and four quarterback hits, and incurred eight penalties throughout the season. Nevertheless, there is hope that a fully healthy Darrisaw can reclaim his previous level of play.
As he approaches his 27th birthday on June 2, Darrisaw is expected to have plenty left to give. A successful training camp and preseason could set the stage for him to return to full strength just in time for the Vikings’ season opener against the Packers at US Bank Stadium. Darrisaw’s recovery is crucial for enhancing Minnesota’s prospects for success in the upcoming season.
