Virginia Tech Secures Commitment from 4-Star WR Cam Wade
BLACKSBURG, VA - In a significant boost for their recruiting efforts, Virginia Tech welcomed a new commitment from four-star wide receiver Cam Wade during a bustling weekend of official visits. The Hokies have been working diligently to enhance their 2027 recruiting class, recently hosting several top prospects, including the state’s top player, edge rusher Chris Whitehead. Although Whitehead has yet to commit, the Hokies did see successful commitments from cornerback Austin Barrett, tight end Sam Faniel, and offensive tackle Luke Braham.
Wade, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound player from Loudoun Sports Academy in Leesburg, Virginia, chose Virginia Tech over competing offers from Florida State and Maryland, among others. With a list that also included powerhouse programs like Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, and LSU, many analysts had previously speculated that Florida State was the frontrunner. However, a visit to Blacksburg appears to have shifted the dynamics significantly.
Originally hailing from Paducah, Kentucky, Wade recently relocated to Virginia, where he quickly gained the attention of Hokies’ head coach James Franklin and wide receivers coach Fontel Mines, who played vital roles in his recruitment. During his junior year at Paducah Tilghman High School, Wade amassed impressive stats, recording 53 receptions for 821 yards and 14 touchdowns, showcasing his potential as a slot receiver at the collegiate level.
With Wade's commitment, Virginia Tech's 2027 class now features three wide receivers, including Demarcus Brown from Roanoke, VA, and Anthony Roberts from Rolesville, NC. Initially set to announce his decision on July 1, Wade has opted to commit earlier than expected. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is currently ranked as the eighth-best recruit in Virginia for the 2027 class. Welcome to the Hokies, Cam Wade!
