Washington State Secures WR Tomas Dixon, Loses Malachi Garlington to Oregon

PULLMAN — Washington State University has successfully added to its recruiting class with the commitment of wide receiver Tomas Dixon. This announcement was made on Monday afternoon, marking Dixon as the 10th recruit in the Cougars' class of 2027. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 165 pounds, Dixon hails from San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, California.

Recently, the Cougars welcomed several prospects for official visits, and some have chosen to join Coach Kirby Moore's program. Dixon stands out with impressive stats from his junior season, where he recorded 30 receptions for 779 yards and eight touchdowns. In addition to his role as a receiver, he also plays defensive back, amassing 35 tackles and two interceptions last year.

Despite receiving offers from several schools, including Fresno State, Colorado State, San Diego State, and Texas State, Dixon opted for WSU. His list of prospective schools also featured UNLV, New Mexico, San Jose State, Hawaii, and various FCS programs like Idaho and Montana State.

In the midst of positive news for WSU, they experienced a setback as well. On the same day, three-star wide receiver Malachi Garlington announced his decommitment from the Cougars after just four days, opting instead to join Oregon. Garlington, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 180 pounds, had recently committed to WSU before taking an official visit to Oregon, conveniently located near his hometown of Happy Valley, Oregon.

The details surrounding his decision remain unclear, but this situation highlights the challenges Washington State faces in retaining high-profile recruits against well-resourced programs like Oregon. Garlington, a standout athlete from Adrienne C. Nelson High School, also excelled in track and field, showcasing his speed and agility with multiple first-place finishes this spring.

As of now, WSU’s recruiting class of 2027 includes several promising athletes, with Dixon joining fellow wide receiver Adrian Barnett, who committed last week. The Cougars continue to build their roster despite the challenges they face in the competitive landscape of college football recruiting.
